We call the image of $\mathcal{D}(\mathscr{X}_{k})$ by $i_{\mathscr{X}}$ the skeleton of $\mathscr{X}$, written as $\Sk(\mathscr{X})\subset X^{\emph{an}}$. It is a cell complex of dimension at most $\dim X$.
