Let ฯ•:๐’œ1โ†’๐’œ2\phi:\mathcal{A}_{1}\to\mathcal{A}_{2} be a homomorphism of Banach kk-algebras. It induces a continuous map ฯ•โ‹†:๐”โก(๐’œ2)โ†’๐”โก(๐’œ1)\phi^{\star}:\mathfrak{M}(\mathcal{A}_{2})\to\mathfrak{M}(\mathcal{A}_{1}) by sending an equivalent class of characters [ฯ‡][\chi] of ๐’œ2\mathcal{A}_{2} to the class of characters [ฯ‡โˆ˜ฯˆ][\chi\circ\psi] of ๐’œ1\mathcal{A}_{1}.
